Brian Kemp’s Revival of The Israeli Oath of Fealty

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) signed House Bill 383 (H.B. 383) into law on February 21st, 2022, which reaffirmed an oath of fealty to Israel for any business that does business with the State of Georgia.

"In a deeper sense this reaffirms our support for a friend a crucial ally in Israel," Gov. Kemp said.

The bill set to "prohibit the state from entering into certain contracts with an individual or company unless such contracts contain a certification that such individual or company does not presently conduct a boycott of Israel and will not conduct such a boycott for the duration of such contract."

"As your governor, I will never allow the state of Georgia to invest in a company that supports boycotts, divesting or sanctions against Israel."

The bill further defined what 'Boycott of Israel' exactly meant.

"'Boycott of Israel' means engaging in refuals to deal with, terminating business activities with, or other actions that are intended to limit commercial relationsh with Israel or companies doing business in Israel, with Israel or organized under laws of the State of Israel, or licensed by Israel to do business in Israel," H.B. 383 stated.

"The state shall not enter into a contract valued at $100,000.000 or more with a company if the contract is related to construction or the provision of services, supplies, or information technology unless the contract includes a written certification that such company is not currently engaged in, and agrees for the duration of the contract not to engage in, a boycott of Israel."

H.B. 383 was sponsored by Rep. John Carson (R-46), Chuck Efstration (R-104), Cooper (43), former Georgia House Rep. Matt Dollar (R-45), Georgia House Rep. Billy Mitchell (D-88), among others.
